Working with photographs meant real texture and age was baked into the finished shot as opposed to an artificial "too clean, cg textured" look.
Like a moving Photoshop image, many different layers were required to achieve the desired look of the shot.
Beside the actors, the only 'real' thing in these shots was the control panel in Sky Captain's P-40.
This split-screen highlights the film's stylized lighting, which was brought to life through the combined efforts of talented cg lighters and comp artists.
